The People's Movement held budget protests outside Leinster House and the European Commission's Dublin office on Wednesday, 9 December. A press statement was issued and can be read in full here.
Leinster House - 1 December 2009
Members of the People's Movement outside Leinster house.
Members of the People's Movement assembled outside Leinster House on Tuesday, December 1st for an event to mark the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. Patricia McKenna and Frank Keoghan, chairperson and secretary of the Movement, handed in P45s to Brian Cowen and the other party leaders to symbolise the fact that the incremental transfer of powers from the Oireachtas to Brussels is making them increasingly redundant.
A P45 for superfluous politicians in the Oireachtas.

Ireland features in Danish debate on EU
Ireland's 'No' to the Lisbon Treaty was at the center of discussion during a recent conference on the theme 'Where is the EU going?' held in the Danish parliament. Robert Ballagh from the People's Movement condemned the failure of the EU and the Irish government to respect the result of the Irish referendum.
Many of the Danish participants expressed the view that there is no 'Irish problem' but that the real problem is the lack of democracy in the EU. Ditte Staun from the People's Movement in Denmark and Keld Albrectsen from the June Movement agreed that the Lisbon Treaty is the wrong way for a better Europe.

Congress protest supported
On Saturday, February 21st, members of the People's Movement took part in the massive protest organised by ICTU against the government's handling of the economic crisis. Government policy is to make ordinary people pay for the economic collapse produced by the policies of deregulation, privatisation and globalisation which it promoted.
